Subject Selection – Heathmont College 2024
The Heathmont Model provides greater choice in learning for students in Years 9 and 10 by allowing them to do more of what they enjoy, specialise in deep knowledge of an area, or engage with a broader set of learning opportunities.
With The Heathmont Model, Years 9 and 10 students have the freedom to indicate preferences for courses across the required breadth of learning areas, as well as additional courses in areas of interest. Students can also apply to study a VCE or VET subject in Year 10.
In Years 11 and 12 we offer the VCE, VM (Vocational Major – replacing VCAL), VCAL (only for Year 12s in 2023) and Head Start. These certificates provide diverse pathways to further study or training at university or TAFE and to employment.
Details of all subjects and options can be found in the Heathmont College Online Handbook.
Enhancement Studies
The VCE is usually done in Year 11 and Year 12 but can be started in Year 10. Approximately half of Victorian Year 10 students take VCE units and at Heathmont College we encourage students to enhance their studies by selecting a VCE or VET subject in Year 10.
Benefits:
- The ability to focus on a single VCE subject
- Getting a taste of VCE
- Bonus ATAR by doing a 6th subject (students get 10% of their 6th subject added to their ATAR score) A VCE Unit 1 or 2 subject from the Science or Humanities Learning Areas can count as your minimum required Science or Humanities subjects.
