Year 9 Rickett’s Marine Sanctuary & Walk

Students will travel by bus to Rickett’s Point Marine Sanctuary and participate in a 2 hour educational presentation Species Interactions in the Intertidal Ecosystem. 
Students will participate in theory and field activities to gain a better understanding of the interactions between intertidal species at Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary. They will be introduced to trophic levels, food webs and the potential impacts of human activities on marine ecosystems. Students will conduct a field investigation to determine the abiotic and biotic factors present in the intertidal zone. Field work skills including quadrant surveys species identification, classification, observation and data recording will also be developed. 

Students will not be swimming however will be near water. Appropriate footwear is recommended. Bathers are not required.

Students will then do a 30 min walk to Moysey Garden traveling along the Moysey Walk, from here we will continue for a 20 min walk onto Banksia Reserve for lunch and some free time. 

Students will travel by bus back to Heathmont College arriving approximately 2.50pm 

Students are advised to bring lunch and drinks especially water as there is no guarantee that food facilities will be available on the day.

Students will not be able to use their mobile phone during the day as per school rules and Government regulations.
